Objective: This study was performed in clinical experiment in order to prove the tooth whitening effect by use of the abrasives of the dentifrice with Hydrated Silica and Sodium Hexametaphosphate.
Methods: 92 volunteers were participated in this clinical study through dividing 3 groups as control group for using plane dentifrice, experimental 1 group for using Hydrated Silica dentifrice and experimental 2 group for using Hydrated Silica and Sodium Hexametaphosphate contained dentifrice for 2 weeks. Tooth whitening was checked with Vita shade guide and VITA EASY SHADE V. L*, a*, b* value was checked by use of CIE (Commission Internationale de l¡¯Eclairage) Lab system and compared them between 3 groups.
Results: Tooth whitening effect was revealed from a week in experimental group 1 and 2 and the more effect in experimental group 2, measured by Vita Shade guide. It revealed a little color change for experimental group1 from a week later, but much color change for experimental group 2, measured with VITA easy shade V (p<0.05). Moreover, it revealed more satisfaction for tooth whitening effect in subjects of the experimental group 2.
Conclusion: Hydrated Silica and Sodium Hexametaphosphate contained dentifrice would be considered as effective for tooth whitening.
